PostTim Baltazar previews all 2012 teams and his expectations:

Hello everyone, Tim Baltazar here. This is a new segment I'm starting here on RBWS.com. I'm going to be previewing all 12 teams that will be competing in 2012 Red Bull World Series powered by Chevrolet. So starting with the defending champions, lets get started!

Silver Green Racing:
Many fans have openly stated that SGR's triumph with then rookie driver Randy Carpenter was a complete fluke, especially after what he did at the Rookie Shootout in March. Honestly, they were the cinderella story on the grid in 2011. Gillard did not show promise in his return from retirement, and thus was dropped by the team for 2012. They then brought up Nick Bradstone, the rookie who hails from Russia to partner with Carpenter. I've heard that Carpenter likes open wheel cars better than stockcars, so this season, look out for Car #1 to be up front.

Mertz Racing Technologies:
You thought merging the two best teams in the sport was impossible? They managed to do it. To cap it all off, Red Bull comes along and will own 25% of the team. RMR and JCR have always been up front when it was the NORA series, can they perhaps stay up front in 2012? We'll see soon enough. We do know that Josh Mertz is ecstatic about the switch to open wheeled cars, where Ron Mertz is not so much.

Team Jrod:
Jared Pierce has stated he loves the change to open wheeled cars. Mertz and him tested the prototype of the DP01 in a private test at Zolder, they were at a dead heat for about 20 laps. Expect Pierce to be on the podium quite a bit this season. Porter might need a bit of adjustment, the former boxer adapted quite well to the stockcars by leading the points for most of the season. Expect Team Jrod to be on the podium quite a bit next year.

Lorenzo-Smith Motorsports:
The 2010 Drivers Champion was mediocre in 2011, LSM wasn't really up to speed with the Pontiac that much. With the clean slate, LSM will be back up to speed. Nik Carlson will have to build his reputation from scratch as he is a rookie, obviously. LSM was rumored that they purposely hired Carlson because the funding was starting to dry up at the team.

Poseidon Racing:
Poseidon has always been a mediocre team. It's seemed Poseidon never set enough money to the side for the team to use, thus, every year their performance has deteriorated. That says something when Fidel Fogelson leaves the team and then Red Bull immediately contacted him for team ownership. Warshaw has been steadily declining in performance since 2008. Arthur Gillard has shifted over to this team, lets see what the now 41 year old can do at yet another new team.

Lotus Technologies:
Vault Boy Motorsports, Juggernaut Racing Team, and Adam Hamlin Motorsports all pooled together their technology and personnel to stay on the grid for 2012. With the strength of 3 midpack teams, could this possibly vault them to the top of the field? Chris Haas is going to be entering his third season, Adam Sweet will be entering his second. Adam Hamlin will be coaching the two young race drivers to attempt to vault this team to the top.

MONSTER Energy Racing:
Zack Johnson, in junction with Nomad Skate Shops and MONSTER Energy, have purchased this team from Red Bull when Red Bull went to sponsor and partially own Mertz Racing Technologies. Johnson showed he can drive in the rain due to several laps at race speed being run in the rain at the Chicagoland race, which he won. So expect to see Johnson at the front in a rain race. Zack Thomas was Johnsons replacement for the illfated 2011 season for the Junior Series when Johnson was called up to Cup by Josh Mertz.

Bi-Winning Motorsports:
This team remains unchanged from 2011, aside from adding former Shawsheen teammate Cody Schacher to the lineup. Columbian Juan Manuel Vanero will be the reserve driver. Expect this team to hang around the mid field unless a race has heavy attrition.

Team Opp Deutschland:
Mike Oppenheimers revival for his team, Opp Inc, managed to get a grid spot and sponsorship from Vodafone. We will see what will happen for this team throughout the season.

Toro Rojo Carreras:
You know a driver has talent if he leaves a team and then gets offered a sponsorship contract from Red Bull. Thats exactly what happened to Fidel Fogelson. He left Poseidon and wanted to start his own team, never thinking that Red Bull would come along and offer the Spaniard a contract. Fogelson has fellow spaniard Bruce Avalos (who raced under the American flag until this contract was announced) to partner him.

Blake Camphausen Motorsports:
Blake Camphausen has brought his famous Camphausen Motorsports team over to the GRC. In ISC, Camphausen Motorsports is the winningest team, with 10 championships among the families many drivers. Expect this team to possibly crack the top 10 in several races, with Michael Travis Vonduvadel and Scott Nowak behind the wheel of the teams 2 cars.

Equipe Taureau Rouge:
The French have something to cheer about other than just having a race on the schedule: A french team with 2 french drivers. To add to that, before Chevrolet was announced the official engine supplier, Renault was going to be the constructor for the team! Expect to have quite a bit of fan appreciation in not only France, but in Canada and Belgium for those races as well.

So thats all I have folks, I hoped you enjoyed reading. See you in Indy!
