Mertz, Johnson, other drivers reform Champ Car

Josh Mertz, Jared Pierce, Zack Johnson, and a trio of other Red Bull World Series drivers have expressed their statements of leaving the Global Racing Championship to go reform the Champ Car World Series. In 2008, Champ Car filed for bankruptcy due to low funds and dwindling field sizes. Carmen Del Rio is rumored to take over the #81 and have it renumbered to the #4, which Del Rio drove for RMR up until the end of 2011.

Camphausen Motorsports will be moving to Champ Car with its GRC team remaining intact.

Randy Carpenter is very interested in joining Champ Car but Silver Green Racing has yet to join

Josh Mertz has stated he would love to have Carpenter join the yet to be named team Mertz is forming.

Randy Carpenter will request a release from SGR to drive for the yet to be named Mertz team in Champ Car statement from Carpenter " first off id like to thank everyone at silver green racing for the opportunity they gave me but i want to win more championships and i feel the Mertz team gives me the best to chance to do so"
